Top Hits

This year has seen tremendous developments in MPA activity. As of December 2024, three-quarters of states in the U.S. are engaged in the MPA movement. Here’s the breakdown:

  • 10 states with MPAs
  • 17 states with authorization
  • 21 states interested or actively planning

★RI, NH, & CT are also part of the MPA learning collaborative

In addition to state activity, 2024 was also a year full of resource development, conference presentations, and stakeholder engagement. Here are some of the most memorable tracks of the year:

Listening Sessions to Inform the National Plan on Aging

In May 2024, the Administration for Community Living released the Strategic Framework for a National Plan on Aging. To facilitate opportunities for older adults of the greatest social and economic need to provide feedback on the framework, the Community Engagement Collaborative (West Health, The SCAN Foundation, and the John A. Hartford Foundation) hosted four listening sessions across the country in D.C., Alabama, Texas, and Pennsylvania. These sessions fostered valuable stakeholder engagement and key insights to inform the development of the National Plan on Aging.

MPA Sessions at On Aging 2024

Another top hit of 2024 included our various MPA sessions at the American Society on Aging’s annual conference in San Francisco. These included the Closing Keynote: Building a National Movement for Aging with Health, Dignity and Connection; Hitting the Ground Running after an Executive Order: Developing a Multisector Plan for Aging; Better Together: Area Agencies on Aging as Key Partners in the Multisector Plan for Aging Development Process; and Engaging Stakeholders to Develop a Strategic Framework for a National Plan on Aging. Through these sessions, attendees learned about the latest MPA developments, heard examples from state panelists, received updates about the National Plan on Aging, and learned how MPAs are promoting healthy aging.

New Resources and Publications

The MPA soundtrack was playing on repeat this year, thanks to the multitude of publications and resources released. These included an issue brief on states with MPAs, accompanied by one-pagers for each state, a toolkit for how to develop an MPA in rural and local communities, and a brief comparing state plans on aging with MPAs. Numerous blogs, showcasing how states have developed data dashboards for their MPAs, how states are using these plans to address the behavioral health of older adults, and how the Community Engagement Collaborative is working with ACL to advance a National Plan on Aging were also released. These are just some of the resources published this year, so be sure to visit multisectorplanforaging.org to view the complete list of resources from 2024.
